PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY!
This has changed from last semester!
To All Economics and Management Majors:
In an effort to improve advising in the Department of Economics and Management, we are sending you detailed instructions regarding the advising procedures in our department. All students in the major including freshmen nee to make an appointment with your advisor. Freshmen do not go to academic advising center
How to find the name of your advisor and office location?
A listing of students and their advisors is posted on the bulletin board directly across the hallway outside the Department Office, Wilson 414.
A directory of faculty office is located outside Wilson 414, other directories exist within Wilson.
Establishing an Appointment for Advising:
¨ Department advising will take place on Monday, March 2nd, excluding Spring break Period.
¨ Each advisor will post on his or her office door an appointment schedule for advising times. Sign your name in a vacant time slot.
Documents You Need and Where to Obtain Them
· Academic Summary Sheet (yellow). You can get this sheet outside Wilson 414. Indicate on this sheet all the courses you have in progress this semester. You should have this sheet from last semesters advising appointment.
· If you are new to the major and do not have the book titled Student Handbook for the Department of Economics and Management, get one outside Wilson Hall 414 or go online to http://wwwbus.wsc.ma.edu/studenthandbook. This manual will provide you with critical information that you will need to know while a student in the Economics and Management Department. This book constrains a listing that details required courses for each concentration by semester; this should help you prepare your next semester’s schedule.
· Bring a copy of the Fall 2009 Course Offerings Booklet. You may find them at several locations throughout the campus. Using the student handbook, Academic Summary Sheet, and Course Offerings Booklet to determine what courses you might need for the next semester. Make certain you consider prerequisite requirements.
Schedule Problems:
After registering for classes should you have a problem with courses that you need (needs are different than wants) please go to the Management Office as soon as possible. It is our objective that all students will have all the classes they need by the end of the registration process. To make this happen we need your cooperation.
The entire department attempts to make this process as quick and painless as possible. Students need to make an appointment and be on time. If you cannot make your appointment please call to let the advisor know.
Students that ask for advising time after the advising period are being disrespectful of faculty time and other student needs. Please do not expect a cordial reception after March 27th if you have not seen your advisor.
Respectfully,
Gary E. Merlo
